East-West Center (EWC) is an education and research organization established by the United States Congress in 1960 to promote better relations and understanding between the people and nations of Asia, the Pacific, and the United States through cooperative study, research, and dialogue. Headquartered in Honolulu on the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa campus, the center’s primary activities include education programs, research initiatives, seminars and conferences, and community outreach. They aim to contribute to a peaceful, prosperous, and just Asia-Pacific community by fostering mutual understanding and cooperation. HPF invests in Native Hawaiian students through the Hawai’i Pacific Foundation Graduate Degree Fellowship which funds Master’s or Doctoral study while participating in educational, cultural, residential community building, and leadership development programs at EWC while pursuing graduate study at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. Additionally, there is also the Hawaiʻi Pacific Foundation Research Award, which supports dissertations research that promotes educational access for Native Hawaiians or demonstrates a commitment or contribution to the study of issues important to the Native Hawaiian community.
