Impact Type: Education & Community Development
Overview
The Hawai‘i Youth Challenge Academy (HYCA), operated by the Hawai‘i National Guard, empowers youth ages 16–18 who have left or are at risk of leaving high school. The free, 22-week residential program, followed by a year of mentorship, focuses on academics, leadership, discipline, and workforce readiness. HYCA equips young adults with the structure and confidence needed to succeed in education, employment, and life.
Our Partnership Impact
• Guiding youth toward completing their education and rebuilding confidence • Funding leadership and personal responsibility training • Supporting workforce readiness and job placement programs • Developing young adults who understand service, discipline, and community contribution
Partnership Story
HPF’s partnership with HYCA demonstrates the power of second chances. Graduates leave with not only a diploma or job skills, but also a renewed sense of direction and pride. As these young adults re-engage with their communities, they model resilience and responsibility—proving that investment in youth potential strengthens families and builds the foundation for Hawai‘i’s future.
