HFD Explorers
Impact Type: Education & Workforce Development
Location: Honolulu, Hawai’i
The HFD Explorers is a youth program organized by the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD), designed to give young people (typically ages 14-20) hands-on experience in firefighting and emergency response. HFD Explorers offers participants the chance to learn about fire service careers, develop emergency response skills, and gain leadership experience.
The program includes training in basic firefighting techniques, first aid, CPR, teamwork, and physical fitness, providing valuable insight into what it takes to work in fire service. Participants work closely with HFD firefighters and mentors who guide them through drills and activities that simulate real-life scenarios. This program is especially valuable for young people interested in pursuing careers in firefighting, emergency medical services, or other public safety professions, giving them a foundation in both technical skills and civic responsibility.
