The FIRST Inaugural NHOA Community Showcase established a strong foundation for partnership, bringing together NHOs and nonprofit organizations alike in support of a thriving and unified Native Hawaiian community. Spearheaded by Naki Sabas, the new Executive Director of NHOA, and Jeannin Jeremiah of Nakupuna, the event offered a platform for connection and collaboration.

NHOA members and nonprofits gathered for a showcase designed to foster these vital relationships, all centered around the theme Hilo ‘Ia A Pa’a—”braiding two cords together”—symbolizing the unity of NHOs and nonprofits in service to the community. This theme was beautifully embodied by the lei hilo, a symbol of partnership created by twisting two pieces of ti leaf into a rope, representing strength in unity.

One of the event’s key objectives was to raise awareness within the community about the resources and support NHOs can offer. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with 45 nonprofits setting up booths. The room was filled with excitement as connections were made, friendships rekindled, and new partnerships took shape before our eyes. This gathering celebrated the true heart of the Native Hawaiian community, where everyone was united by a shared commitment to uplift one another and strengthen the bonds the define our work and values.

As we look ahead, we feel hopeful from the momentum that was generated by this showcase and are eager to nurture this spirit of unity as we continue to grow and evolve. We look forward to seeing where this journey takes us next!
