What is an NHO?
Pursuant to SBA regulations, a Native Hawaiian Organization (NHO) is a nonprofit entity chartered in the State of Hawaiʻi, managed by Native Hawaiians, and established to principally serve the Native Hawaiian community.
Under the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 8(a) Business Development Program, NHOs are authorized to own small businesses that participate in federal contracting. These NHO-owned businesses operate under special provisions that allow them to access set-aside and sole-source contracts, including awards above the 8(a) ceiling for Department of Defense contracts.
